Williams Voted Athlete Of The Week
Sept. 5, 2017

BOISE, Idaho - Redshirt freshman cornerback/returner Avery Williams was voted the first Boise State Athlete of the Week Tuesday, earning 57 percent of the vote from fans in the @BroncoSports poll.

Williams made a memorable debut in Saturday's 24-13 season-opening win for the football program. Just a minute and a half into the contest, Williams fielded a punt at the Bronco 19, weaved through would-be tacklers and took it 81 yards for a touchdown on his first collegiate touch. The return was the fifth-longest in Bronco history, and his 124 punt-return yards over five chances in the contest marked the sixth-highest total in program history.

Williams went on to return a kickoff for 48 yards to the Troy 41 late in the second quarter, setting up a field goal which gave the Broncos a 17-10 lead heading into halftime. For his performance, Williams was named Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week.

Boise State football returns to action this Saturday (Sept. 9) at No. 20/22 Washington State. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. MT on The Palouse, and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.

Also nominated: Sierra Nobley (Women's Volleyball), Raimee Sherle (Women's Soccer).
