Williams Nabs MW Special Teams Honor
Sept. 4, 2017

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State redshirt freshman KR/PR Avery Williams was named Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week Monday after his electric performance Saturday which included the Broncos' first punt return for a touchdown since 2014.

Williams, a Pasadena, Calif., native, fielded a punt just a minute and a half into Saturday's contest against Troy, and, on the first touch of his collegiate career, weaved his way through would-be tacklers for an 81-yard touchdown return, the fifth-longest in Boise State history and the Broncos' first such score since Donte Deayon's 75-yard return at Wyoming on Nov. 22, 2014.

Williams would go on to amass 124 yards over five punt returns Saturday, the sixth-highest single-game total in school history. He also fielded a kickoff which he returned 48 yards into Troy territory, setting up a Boise State field goal late in the first half to put the Broncos up 17-10.

On defense, Williams, a cornerback, made a solo tackle.

Boise State (1-0) visits Washington State (1-0) this Saturday. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. MT and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
