Johnson named candidate for 2008 Doak Walker Award

BOISE, Idaho Heading into his senior season, Ian Johnson has been named a candidate for the 2008 Doak Walker Award.

Johnson (San Dimas, Calif./Damien HS) ranks among the NCAA active career leaders in nine separate categories.  He leads the nation in career scoring touchdowns (46), career rushing touchdowns (45) and career all-purpose running touchdowns (46), while ranking second in career rushing (3,417 yards), second in career carries (602), fourth in scoring-total points (278 points), sixth in yards per carry (5.68) and seventh in rushing yards per game (92.4) and scoring-points per game (7.5 ppg).

Johnson is one of 43 candidates for the award which honors the nation’s top running back.  He needs 1,058 yards to pass Cedric Minter and become Boise State’s all-time leading rusher.  He also is within striking distance of a number of Western Athletic Conference records.
