Day 22: Newcomers Of The Day
Aug. 27, 2015

BOISE, Idaho - The Broncos had a light workout in helmets and shorts Thursday, but the Lithia Ford Newcomers of the Day are another double, as defensive lineman Matt Locher and quarterback Brett Rypien are the featured newcomers.

Locher, out of Los Alamitos High School in the city by the same name in Southern California, bounced back from missing his entire junior season due to injury to be named to the All-CIF Southern Section Team (West Valley Division), the Orange County Register Defensive Player of the Year, Sunset League co-MVP and to the All-Sunset League First Team in 2014. That season he registered 155 tackles, seven sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery on defense while rushing for 233 yards and nine touchdowns on offense as the Griffins captured the Sunset League title with a perfect 5-0 league mark.

Rypien joined the Broncos in January, enrolling for the spring semester. He got a full spring practice session and game under his belt after coming to Boise following a record-setting career at Shadle Park High School in Spokane, Wash. There, Rypien was voted the Associated Press 3A State Player of the Year after concluding his prep career as the state's career passing leader with 13,044 yards. As a senior Rypien threw for a state single-season record of 4,552 yards and 50 touchdowns. Over his first three seasons, Rypien had already thrown for more than 8,500 yards and 90 touchdowns, breaking the record of 4,965 yards passing in Greater Spokane League games held by his uncle, Super Bowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien.

Bronco fans can get to know Rypien a little more below, and can follow the latest updates and behind-the-scenes happenings of Fall Camp as well as with the many Boise State programs by adding us on Snapchat at "broncoathletics" from a mobile device or tablet.
