BOISE – The Boise State defense forced seven turnovers Saturday at Bronco Stadium in the team’s final scrimmage of Fall Camp.
Redshirt freshman defensive back Darian Thompson led the Broncos with seven tackles (all solo), and had two of the team’s six interceptions.
Freshmen defensive backs Chanceller James and Donte Deayon, redshirt junior nickel Jonathan Brown and freshman defensive end Darien Barrett each also had an interception during the scrimmage.
Sophomore nickel Corey Bell added a fumble recovery, which he returned 95 yards for a touchdown.
Redshirt junior quarterback Joe Southwick completed 16-of-24 passes for 141 yards, and hit redshirt senior wide receiver Mitch Burroughs for a six-yard touchdown strike. His lone interception of the day came at the end of the scrimmage in a red zone drill.
Burroughs led the Broncos with seven catches for 70 yards, and freshman tight end Hayden Plinke added a 75-yard touchdown reception from redshirt freshman quarterback Jimmy Laughrea.
Redshirt freshman running back Jay Ajayi led the Broncos with 78 yards on seven carries, and added a six-yard touchdown. Fellow freshman Jack Fields carried a team-high 10 times for 51 yards.
Boise State will open its 2012 season at Michigan State, Aug. 31. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 6 p.m. (MT), and will be nationally-televised by ESPN.
