BOISE, Idaho - For the fourth straight season the Boise State University football team is ranked in the Associated Press preseason top-25 poll coming in at No. 24.
The Broncos received 212 points in the preseason poll. This is the lowest preseason ranking in the past four seasons. Boise State started the 2009 season at No. 14, the 2010 season at No. 9 and last year at No. 5.
Southern Cal starts the 2012 season at No. 1 with the Trojans receiving 25 first place votes and 1,445 points. Alabama was No. 2 with LSU, Oklahoma and Oregon rounding out the top five.
Boise State's opening opponent Michigan State received 742 points and is No. 13 in the preseason poll. The Broncos travel to East Lansing, Michigan on Aug. 31 (Friday) to face the Spartans. Kickoff is 6 p.m. (MT) and will be broadcast live on ESPN.
Earlier this month the Broncos were ranked No. 22 in the USA Today Coaches preseason poll marking the 62nd consecutive poll Boise State has been in the top 25. Alabama is the only school with a longer streak at 65.
The Broncos are the only non-Bowl Championship Series team in the top 25.
Boise State will host its only August scrimmage open to the public today at 7 p.m. at Bronco Stadium. The scrimmage is free with open parking in the lots surrounding the stadium. Gates will open at 6 p.m.
