BOISE, Idaho For each day of Fall Camp, Bronco football head coach Chris Petersen is going to select one player who had an outstanding practice and reward him as “Coach Pete’s Player of the Day.” Wednesday’s Player of the Day is freshman linebacker Derrell Acrey.

Acrey (6-2, 235) was a three-year letterman in football and track at Redlands East Valley High School in East Highland, Calif., earning first-team All-Citrus Belt League honors in each of his three football seasons.

As a senior Acrey recorded 139 tackles, one sack, three fumble recoveries, and two blocked field goals en route to All-CIF, first-team all-area and first-team all-county accolades.

“He’s done a nice job,” Petersen said. “He is a very, very physical player. He flies around with great enthusiasm and he’s learning our system rapidly. Boy, you love to see a guy like that with that much potential and that many years in front of him being on our blue turf.”
