BOISE, Idaho The first of three Bronco football scrimmages this fall is scheduled for Thursday evening, from 6:30-9:00 p.m., at Bronco Stadium.

Practice begins at 6:30 p.m., and the scrimmage is scheduled to begin at 7:15 p.m. This is the first of two scrimmages that are open to the public, with the second one being held Aug. 18.

The scrimmage marks the first time this fall that fans will have the opportunity to take a look at their 2006 Bronco football team. Fans will also have the opportunity to witness some of the many positional battles that are taking place on their Bronco squad.

Junior Taylor Tharp and sophomore Bush Hamdan are fighting to back-up starting quarterback Jared Zabransky, junior Jeff Cavender and senior Jadon Dailey are battling for the starting center position, and seniors Ryan Keating and Tony Volponi are trying to earn the starting nod at right guard.

On defense, the tackle, outside linebacker, and dime-back positions are also being fought for. Competing for playing time at nose guard opposite Andrew Browning are junior Dan Gore, senior Tim Volk and junior Sione Tavake. Sophomores David Shields and Kyle Gingg are vying for the outside linebacker position opposite Colt Brooks. And freshman Kyle Wilson, sophomore Ellis Powers and freshman Tristan Patin are competing for the dime-back spot.

Come out and cheer on your Broncos as they prepare for their first full season under head coach Chris Petersen!
