Boise State On HBO's Hard Knocks
Aug. 8, 2017

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State should have a significant presence on this summer's season of "Hard Knocks" as the HBO series, premiering tonight at 11 p.m. MT, focuses on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tampa Bay features Bronco football alumni not only on its training-camp roster but also on its coaching and scouting staffs. Four former Broncos, running backs Doug Martin and Jeremy McNichols, wide receiver Thomas Sperbeck, and defensive back Jonathan Moxey, opened training camp in late July on the Bucs' roster, although Sperbeck was waived on July 30 after suffering a hamstring injury.

Martin, a two-time all-conference running back for the Broncos during his four-year career (2008-11), enters his sixth season with the Bucs in 2017. He was taken 31st overall by Tampa Bay in the 2012 NFL Draft, one of just four first-round picks in Boise State history, and has made two Pro Bowls (2012, 2015) in his career.

McNichols, a two-time all-Mountain West pick for the Broncos, was selected in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by Tampa Bay. Over his three-year Boise State career (2014-16), McNichols rushed for 3,205 yards and 44 touchdowns, including a 1,709-yard, 23-touchdown effort in 2016. For his career, McNichols scored 55 total touchdowns for Boise State.

Moxey was signed by the Bucs as a free agent after the 2017 draft and worked his way through rookie minicamps to earn his place at training camp. Voted to the All-Mountain West Second Team in 2016, Moxey made 50 tackles (43 solo), with 4.5 going for loss, and led the Broncos with 13 passes defended.

The Bucs are led by head coach Dirk Koetter, who helmed Boise State from 1998-2000, going 26-10 with a pair of Big West Conference titles. Koetter also guided the Broncos to the program's first bowl victories as a member of the FBS, picking up victories in the Crucial.com/Humanitarian Bowl over Louisville (1999) and UTEP (2000).

Former Bronco defensive back Antwon Murray (2010-11) is entering his second season with the Buccaneers, currently serves as a scouting assistant. Murray spent two seasons (2014-15) as Boise State's director of recruiting prior to joining Tampa Bay.

The five-episode season will run through Sept. 5.
