Additional Summer Classic Details

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State’s offensive and defensive captains have selected their respective participants for Thursday’s Home Run Derby, scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Boise Hawks’ Memorial Stadium in advance of the team’s Summer Classic Softball Game.

Additionally, a few local celebrities have agreed to serve as umpires.

Quarterback and offensive captain Brett Rypien has selected Brock Barr, Ezra Cleveland, Jake Constantine and Alec Dhaenens to represent his side. Defensively, captain Leighton Vander Esch will participate in the Home Run Derby, and will be joined by Chase Hatada, Mason Smith and Blake Whitlock. The offensive and defensive players with the most home runs will advance to the finals.

For the first time since the game’s inception, a group of local celebrities have been selected to officiate. KIVI’s Dan Hawk, the Idaho Press-Tribune’s B.J. Rains, the Idaho Statesman’s Dave Southorn and KTVB’s Jay Tust will each serve as umpires.

The Summer Classic Softball Game, a six-inning contest pitting the offense against the defense, is set for July 20 at the Boise Hawks’ Memorial Stadium. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m., but gates will open at 5 p.m.

Tickets are only $5 for all attendees, and proceeds will benefit scholarships for at-risk children to participate in Youth Optimist Football.

Following the game, the Bronco football team will sign autographs in the outfield for fans in attendance.
