Ajayi Named to Another Watch List

July 18, 2014

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Boise State redshirt junior running back Jay Ajayi has been named to the 2014 Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch List, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced Friday.

Ajayi is also a member of the preseason watch lists for the Maxwell and Doak Walker Awards, given annually to the college player of the year and the nation's top running back, respectively.

Of the 50 members on the Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch List, Ajayi is one of only seven running backs, and one of four players from the Mountain West.

Ajayi rushed for 1,425 yards on 249 carries in 2013, and his 18 rushing touchdowns last season were the eighth-most in the country. He has averaged 5.96 yards per carry through his two seasons as a Bronco, the seventh-highest average nationally amongst active players with more than 250 career attempts.

He is the only offensive member of the 2013 All-MW First Team returning in 2014, and his yardage total from last season is the fourth-highest nationally returning for this season. Ajayi averaged 8.8 points scored per game in 2013, ranking 21st-nationally, and his 109.6 yards per game ranked 19th-nationally.

The Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch List will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists in mid-November, and the winner will be announced live on ESPN's SportsCenter, Dec. 11.
