Goodale Named to Groza Award Watch List

July 9, 2014

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Boise State redshirt senior kicker Dan Goodale has been named to the 2014 Lou Groza Award Watch List, an award given annually to the nation's top kicker.

Goodale is one of 30 candidates on the preseason list, and one of four individuals from the Mountain West - tied for the most from a single conference nationally.

Earlier this week, Jay Ajayi was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List, given annually to the College Player of the Year, and Shane Williams-Rhodes was named to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List, given annually to the most versatile player in college football.

Goodale is one of only 13 kickers returning nationally whom converted double-digit field goal attempts at a rate better than 85 percent - and one of only two from the MW (Jared Roberts, Colorado State). Goodale went 17-for-19 on field goals in 2013, ranking 15th-nationally and leading the MW in field goal percentage (.895).

His 108 points scored last season are the ninth-most in school history.

Semifinalists for the Groza Award will be announced Nov. 6, and the list will be cut to three finalists, Nov. 24. The winner will be announced at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show, Dec. 11.

The Broncos are entering their first season under head coach Bryan Harsin, a former Bronco quarterback (1995-99) who also served on the coaching staff from 2001-10. With Harsin as offensive coordinator from 2006-10, Boise State went 61-5, including undefeated seasons in 2006 (13-0) and 2009 (14-0). The Broncos scored 2,733 points during that time, the most in the country.
