BOISE, Idaho – The 2016 college football award previews continued Wednesday as Boise State tight end Jake Roh was named to the preseason watch list of the John Mackey Award, given annually to the nation's top tight end.

Roh is the first Boise State tight end named to the Mackey Award watch list since 2013 when Gabe Linehan made the preseason list. Roh, a redshirt junior from Scottsdale, Ariz., is one of 45 tight ends from around the country named to the list, and one of just four from the Mountain West.

Over the past two seasons Roh has become a major target in the Bronco passing attack, following up a 2014 season in which he caught 35 passes for 408 yards and a pair of scores with a strong 2015 campaign in which he hauled in 33 receptions for 357 yards and a touchdown. He was named to the All-Mountain West Second Team last season after earning All-Mountain West honorable mention in 2014.

Roh has appeared in all 27 of Boise State’s contests over the past two seasons, including 20 starts. Last year he finished second among Mountain West tight ends with 33 receptions and as a run-blocker contributed to the Bronco rushing attack that averaged 191.4 yards per game.

Roh joins Boise State quarterback Brett Rypien and running back Jeremy McNichols as 2016 preseason watch list members. Rypien and McNichols were named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award Tuesday morning.

Boise State opens the 2016 season Saturday, Sept. 3 at Louisiana. The Broncos’ home opener is the following Saturday, Sept. 10, against Washington State.

The winner of the 2016 Mackey Award will be announced Dec. 7 and presented Dec. 8 as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
