            BOISE, Idaho Boise State University head football coach Chris Petersen has announced that Drew Hawkins has to leave the Bronco football team due to a reoccurring injury.

            A red-shirt freshman from Boulder, Colorado, Hawkins recently suffered a concussion when playing a recreational softball game.  Hawkins has suffered several concussions while participating in athletics and it was a family decision that he discontinues his football playing career.

            Hawkins walked on the Bronco team prior to the 2008 season after playing at Holy Family High School where he was selected the 2A Colorado Player of the Year in 2007.

            He is the son of former Boise State head football coach, and current head football coach at the University of Colorado, Dan Hawkins.
