Athlon Sports Tabs Broncos No. 5 in Preseason Ranking
BOISE, Idaho – Athlon Sports is counting down its preseason top 25 in conjunction with the magazine’s yearly release, and the Boise State football team came in at No. 5, Monday. For the magazine’s complete Bronco breakdown, CLICK HERE.

In addition to the top-five ranking, five Broncos were named Athlon Sports Preseason All-America and 13 were named Preseason All-Mountain West Conference.

Offensive tackle Nate Potter and defensive tackle Billy Winn each garnered preseason first-team All-America honors, and quarterback Kellen Moore, defensive end Shea McClellin and safety George Iloka were each named to the second team.

Each of the five preseason All-Americans were named to the Preseason All-MWC First Team, which also included running back Doug Martin, center Thomas Byrd and punt returner Chris Potter. Wide receivers Geraldo Hiwat and Tyler Shoemaker, offensive guard Joe Kellogg, defensive end Tyrone Crawford and defensive tackle Chase Baker were tabbed Preseason All-MWC Second Team.

Athlon Sports ranked the Broncos’ defensive line as the top unit in the country, and also ranked Boise State’s quarterbacks (No. 2) and offensive line (No. 5) in the top five nationally.

Boise State is slated to open the 2011 season against Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, Sept. 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. (MT) at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ga., and the game will be televised by ESPN.
