BOISE, Idaho - Boise State rising junior safety Kekoa Nawahine was named to the 2018 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List Wednesday. The award, which listed 42 preseason candidates, honors college football's best in character and performance from a defensive collegiate player.

The award's recipient is determined by which nominee best exemplifies the "IMPACT" acronym in its name, which stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academic, Community, and Tenacity.

Nawahine enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2017, being named to the All-Mountain West Second Team after starting all 14 games in the secondary and finishing second on the team with 108 tackles (65 solo). His standout numbers included a team-high three interceptions (sharing the lead with Leighton Vander Esch), 4.5 tackles-for-loss, and a fumble recovery, contributing to a Boise State defense which finished the season ranked 22nd in the country and 17th against the run.

Off the field, Nawahine is a two-time Academic All-Mountain West selection, and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 Football Team for the first time.

Boise State, which went 11-3 in 2017, captured its third Mountain West title, and finished ranked 22nd in both national polls, opens the 2018 campaign Sept. 1 at Troy.
