BOISE, Idaho - Former Boise State defensive end Demarcus Lawrence was selected by the Dallas Cowboys with the 34th overall pick in the 2014 National Football League Draft, Friday. Lawrence was the second selection of the second round, and Dallas traded up to grab the former Bronco.

At No. 34 overall, Lawrence is the seventh-highest player drafted in school history. Lawrence's selection also gives Boise State at least one draft choice in the first or second rounds in each of the last five seasons. In all, 12 Broncos have been selected in the draft during that time - half of which have gone in the first or second rounds.

He is the seventh second-round selection in school history, and the ninth to go in the first or second rounds since 2006.

In just two seasons at Boise State, Lawrence, who started each of his 23 games played, registered 34.0 tackles-for-loss and 20.0 sacks, ranking 14th and tied for seventh on the Broncos' all-time lists, respectively. The sack total was also tied for the fifth-most nationally from 2012-13.

Lawrence, who was named first-team All-Mountain West in both 2012 and 2013, led Bronco defensive linemen in tackles each season, recording 48 and 72, respectively.

He had 20.5 TFLs in 2013 en route to second-team Walter Camp All-America honors, tied for the sixth-most in the country and tied for the ninth-most in a single season in Boise State history. His per-game average of 1.7 TFLs ranked third-nationally.

Lawrence's 10.5 sacks last season were tied for the 13th-most nationally, and are tied for the fifth-most in a single season in school history. His per-game average of 0.88 per game ranked tied for 10th nationally.

Lawrence blocked two field goals against Southern Miss, only of only two players in the country to block multiple kicks in a single game in 2013. Additionally, his three forced fumbles were tied for the 22nd-most in the country last season.

He had 13.0 TFLs and 9.5 sacks in 2012, and his per-game averages of 1.23 TFLs and 0.86 sacks each led the Mountain West. The sack average also ranked tied for 18th nationally, and his four forced fumbles ranked tied for eighth-nationally.

Originally from Aiken, S.C. (Silver Bluff HS), Lawrence was named Boise State's Defensive Most Valuable Player in 2013 and the Broncos' Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman in 2012.
