Freshman Joe Southwick led the way for the Broncos offensively as he connected with freshman wide receiver Aaron Burks on a 48-yard pass with three-minutes to play, followed by a successful two-point conversion to tie the game at 25 points each. Southwick finished the day completing 10-of-15 for 191 yards.
Once the game was tied at 25, the defense recorded one point on a 3-and-out, followed by two more points with a sack by Jarrel Root, putting the defense up 28-25 with 33 seconds to play. The offense then marched down the field and scored a 41-yard field goal by Trevor Harman to tie the game at 28 point apiece with seven seconds left, sending the game into overtime.
In the final play of the game, the offense failed to capitalize on a two-point conversion, giving the defense two points, giving them the win.
Defensively, J.C. Percy recorded a team-high five tackles, including a tackle for a loss, followed by Byron Hout with four tackles and two tackles for a loss. However, scoring the most points for the defense was Root, as he recorded three sacks for 31 yards to combine for six points.
Earlier in the game, Mitch Burroughs ran for 24-yards to score a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Burroughs led the offense on the ground as he tallied a total of 46 yards on three carries, to average 15.6 yards per carry.
Burks was the leading received for the game, with five receptions for 119 yards and scoring the only receiving touchdown of the game. Also proving to be a threat for the Boise State offense was Geraldo Hiwat, who registered 60 yards on three receptions.
Standing out among the Bronco defense was Ebo Makinde, who registered three tackles and an interception, and Khayree Marshall with three tackles and half a sack.
The game put the offense up against the Boise State defense with a point system set in place by the Bronco coaching staff prior to the scrimmage. The offense scoring was traditional of a regular game, while the defensive scoring system was set up as follows:
