Offense Takes Blue and Orange Game
BOISE, Idaho – Chris Potter caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Joe Southwick on the final play from scrimmage, sending the offense to a 22-19 victory in front of 17,123 fans at the Blue and Orange Spring Game Saturday at Bronco Stadium.

For their efforts, the Boise State offense won postgame meals and showers, while the defense went home sweaty and hungry.

Southwick, a redshirt junior, completed 14-of-19 passes for 145 yards and the touchdown to Potter, who caught three passes for 39 yards.

Freshman quarterback Nick Patti completed 4-of-8 passes for 60 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown to redshirt freshman wide receiver Troy Ware.

Redshirt senior running back Drew Wright scored on an 11-yard run, and finished the scrimmage with 32 yards on 10 carries. He also led the Broncos with four receptions for 16 yards.

A 37-yard field goal from redshirt freshman kicker Jake Van Ginkel completed the scoring for the Broncos’ offense.

Defensively, Boise State earned six points on interceptions – three points each – from redshirt sophomore safety Jeremy Ioane and sophomore linebacker Blake Renaud. Sacks by redshirt freshman defensive end Sam Ukwuachu and redshirt senior defensive lineman Darren Koontz earned another four points – two each – for the defense.

Koontz also blocked a point-after-try, and led the team with 1.5 tackles-for-loss.

The remainder of the points on the defensive side came from a fourth-down stop (three points), five forced three-and-outs (one point each) and by holding the offense to a field goal in the red zone (one point).

Redshirt freshman defensive back Darian Thompson led the team with six tackles (three solo), while junior college transfer Demarcus Lawrence, who joined the team this spring, recorded five tackles (four solo), including a tackle-for-loss.

Boise State will conclude its spring with the team’s final practice Monday.

The Broncos will open the 2012 season at Michigan State, Aug. 31.
