BOISE, Idaho – The Broncos defeated Boise State 13-7 in the 2017 edition of the Spring Game Saturday at Albertsons Stadium. Instead of matching up offense versus defense, the team split into two squads for this year’s annual spring game.

Captained by Brett Rypien and Leighton Vander Esch, the Broncos scored on a 1-yard run from Ryan Wolpin and picked up a pair of field goals from Joel Velazquez. Velazquez, who connected from 49 and 26 yards, ultimately provided the difference as Rathen Ricedorff led the Boise State squad down the field for its only score, an 11-yard scramble on the game’s final play from scrimmage.

Through wind and rain, Rypien finished 18-for-31 for 154 yards. He was intercepted by Avery Williams in the opening half.

Williams and Jake Knight served as captains for the Boise State squad, who were quarterbacked by Jake Constantine and Ricedorff. Constantine completed 13-of-28 for 123 yards, while Ricedorff was 1-for-3 for 17 yards.

Wolpin led the way on the ground, picking up 74 yards and his score on 17 carries for the Broncos side. Christopher Hutchings led the way for Boise State, picking up 20 yards on three carries.

Sean Modster recorded a game-high five catches for 37 yards, while A.J. Richardson had 74 yards on four catches.

With today’s game, Boise State concluded its 2017 spring practice slate. The Broncos will open the 2017 season at home against Troy, Sept. 2.
