BOISE, Idaho - For the fourth straight year, the Boise State (12-1) football team is ranked in the top-10 of the final two national major polls coming in at No. 6 in the USA Today Coaches poll and No. 8 in the Associated Press media poll.
Along with being ranked in the top-10 of the final polls for four straight seasons, the Broncos have also been ranked in the top-25 of final two polls six straight years and in the top-10 five of those six years.
In the past six years of the final USA Today Coaches poll, Boise State has been ranked No. 6 in 2011; No. 10 in 2010; No. 6 in 2009; No. 9 in 2008; No. 22 in 2007; and No. 9 in 2006.
Along with being ranked No. 8 in this year's final AP poll, the Broncos were ranked No. 10 in the 2010; No. 6 in 2009; No. 9 in 2008; No. 24 in 2007; and No. 9 in 2006.
In fact, Boise State has been ranked among the final top-25 teams in the country nine of the past 10 seasons. The Broncos finished the 2002 season ranked No. 12 (coaches) and No. 15 (AP); No. 15 and 16 in 2003; and No. 13 and 12 in 2004. The only time in the past 10 years Boise State was not ranked in the top-25 of a final poll was in 2005.
Boise State and Alabama, which defeated LSU 21-0 in Monday's (Jan. 9) BCS National Championship game, are the only two teams to finish in the top-10 of the major polls the past three seasons.
Alabama (12-1) received all 59 first place votes in the coaches' poll, and 55 of the 60 first place votes in the media poll.
LSU (13-1), Oklahoma State (12-1), Oregon (12-2) and Arkansas (11-2) rounded out the top-5 in both polls.
While Boise State finished No. 6 in the coaches' poll, USC (10-2) and Stanford (11-2) were ahead of the Broncos in the final AP poll at No. 6 and 7, respectively.
The Broncos were the highest ranked team in the final polls from a non-qualifying BCS conference.
Looking ahead to next year Michigan State (11-3), Boise State's opening opponent in 2012, finished the season ranked No. 10 in the coaches' poll and No. 11 in the media poll. The Broncos travel to East Lansing, Mich. to face the Spartans on Aug. 31 (Friday).
Two Another 2012 opponents for Boise State also finished in the final top-25 polls.
Southern Miss. was ranked No. 19 and 20 in the coaches and media polls, respectively, while BYU was No. 25 in the coaches' poll.
The Broncos travel to Southern Miss. on Oct. 6 (Saturday), while hosting BYU at Bronco Stadium on Sept. 22 (Saturday).
