Boise State Men's Basketball Takes on Southern Utah in Saturday's Double Header
BOISE STATE MEN’S BASKETBALL TAKES ON SOUTHERN UTAH IN DOUBLE HEADER: The Boise State men’s basketball team hosts Southern Utah, Saturday, Nov. 29 at approximately 8:15 p.m. at Taco Bell Arena. The men’s game will tip-off 30 minutes after the Boise State women’s basketball team plays Utah Valley, which begins at 6 p.m. (MST).

ABOUT SOUTHERN UTAH: The Thunderbirds are on a three-game skid, posting a record of 3-1 in regular season play ... Look for Davis Baker to make his presence known on the floor as he leads Southern Utah averaging 17.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game ... As a team, they are shooting 44.2 percent from the floor, including 74.7 from the free throw line ... The Thunderbirds have either equaled or had higher assist totals than the first three opponents this season but Seattle Pacific had 18 to SUU’s 13 dimes. ... After tallying 17 assists in the opener vs. Mesa State (the Mavericks also had 17), SUU had 27 assists last week, to 22 for the opponents. The Thunderbirds had a 15-12 edge at Florida and out-dimed TTU 12-10.

LAST TIME AGAINST SOUTHERN UTAH:  Tyler Tiedeman made two free throws with 10.2 seconds left in overtime and Boise State hung on for a 75-73 win over Southern Utah when a 3-pointer at the buzzer missed ... David Marek's 3-point attempt at the buzzer would have won it for the Thunderbirds, but it went halfway down before bouncing out ... Tiedeman scored 17 points to lead the Broncos (3-2), who had all five starters finish in double figures ... Reggie Larry and Anthony Thomas scored 14 points each, while Matt Bauscher had 11 points and Matt Nelson added 10 ... Thomas gave the Broncos a 66-64 lead on a jumper a minute to go in regulation before the Thunderbirds' Nick Livi tied it from the right baseline with 20 seconds left ... Tiedeman's free throws gave the Broncos a 75-71 lead, then Marek made a layup to get the Thunderbirds back within two. Livi fouled Bauscher, who missed both his free throws and Marek had a chance to win it but his shot was just off.

KIDO (580 and 630 AM) in Boise, will broadcast the game live with Bob Behler providing the play-by-play. Former Boise State basketball player Abe Jackson handles color commentary. The games can also be heard on the Boise State Broncos Radio Network in Twin Falls (KSNQ 98.3 FM), Pocatello (KWIK 1240AM), Idaho Falls (KID 590AM), Sun Valley (KYZK 107.5FM), and McCall (KDZY 98.3 FM). KIDO, which is in its first year as the home of the Broncos, will broadcast every Boise State game.

SANCHEZ NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mark Sanchez was named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 17-23. The honor marks the first career WAC Player of the Week award for Sanchez, making him just the 10th Bronco to earn the award ... The senior led the Broncos in scoring last week, posting 14 points at Siena and 25 more against Idaho State. Sanchez recorded his first career double-double in a double overtime win against Idaho State, registering a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with his 25 points. He also dished out a career-high five assists against the Bengals. Sanchez connected on 4-of-6 shots against Siena and hit 6-of-13 against Idaho State for a two-game 52.6 percent average from the field ... On the week, Sanchez averaged 19.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. Sanchez currently leads the WAC in scoring, averaging 20 points per game ... This marked the 14th time that a player from Boise State since joining the WAC in 2001 to garner the award.

STARTING STRONG: The Broncos are off to their best start in four seasons as Boise State boasts a record of 3-1 ... The last time they began a season 3-1 was during the 2004-05 season, when the Broncos finished the year 16-18 overall, 6-12 in conference play ... During coach Graham’s first three seasons at Boise State, the Broncos started the year with a 3-1 record.

HOME SWEET HOME: During the 2008-09 season, the Broncos are undefeated when playing at home ... The last time the Broncos opened with a perfect record in Taco Bell Arena was in 2006-07, when Boise State lost just one game on its home court (lost 95-81 to Nevada, Feb. 24, 2007).

SECOND HALF SURGE:
In the last two games, the Broncos have picked up the pace in the second half of play, bettering their shooting percentage by over 20 percent ... During the Idaho State game, Boise State shot a mere 34.8 percent from the floor during the first half of play, before coming out of the locker room to shoot 56.5 percent the second half (21.7 percent difference) ... The Broncos shot an unbelievable 72.7 percent from the floor against Montana State, improving 32.7 percent from their first half percentage of 40.0.
