Boise State Men's Basketball Signs 6-foot-9 Sam Hicks to National Letter of Intent

BOISE, Idaho - Greg Graham, head men’s basketball coach at Boise State University, announced today the signing of Sam Hicks, a 6-foot-9, 230 pound power forward from Liberty Christian High School in Redding, California, to a National Letter of Intent.

Hicks will start for Liberty Christian as a senior. During his junior season, he averaged 9.7 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2 blocks per game. He scored in double-figures in 15 of the Patriots 31 games played during the 2007-08 season. Hicks recorded a career-high 24 points and added 11 boards to lead Liberty Christian to an overall record of 25-7, which included a perfect 8-0 in Mid-Valley League North conference play.

“Sam is a big, long, versatile front line player,” Graham said. “He can run the floor and is an active rebounder. His mobility makes him a great fit for our system. Being only 17-years-old he may still add to that 6-foot-9, 230 pound frame.”

Hicks, who will join the Broncos in the fall of 2009 at the end of his senior season, is the first player signed by Graham and the Broncos during the current signing period.

Excerpt on Hicks after being named to the 2008 All-Record Searchlight second-team from the Record Searchlight Paper:

“If you're looking for a possible 2009 R-S V.P. candidate, look no further. At an athletic, toned 6-foot-9, Hicks has the power and size to muscle past medium-sized posts and the footwork to embarrass his fellow giants. He ripped Hamilton for 24 points on Jan. 22 and did it with a couple two-handed dunks.”

Quote from Todd Franklin (Liberty Christian Head Basketball Coach):

“Sam is going to be a great fit at Boise State and the coaches know exactly what kind of player they are getting from him. He is a young, athletic big man that likes to run the court and is a great rebounder. Overall, his athleticism and skill is a rarity in high school athletics and will be a great addition at Boise State.”
