Broncos Open Season With Double-Header Exhibition Game

BRONCOS OPEN SEASON WITH DOUBLE-HEADER EXHIBITION GAMES: The Broncos kick-off the 2008-09 basketball season Saturday, with their first exhibition game featuring a double-header with the women’s team on Saturday. The women will tip-off at 1 p.m. against Lewis-Clark State, while the men face Guelph at 3:15 pm. The Gryphons (3-2) are coached by Chris O’Rourke, who enters his 11th season at Guelph.

ABOUT GUELPH: The Gryphons have posted a record of 3-2 in preseason play, with Boise being their first stop in the United States before taking on Weber State. Guelph is surrounded by the rolling hills of southwestern Ontario and is an hour’s drive from Toronto.

RADIO: KIDO (580 and 630 AM) in Boise, will broadcast the game live with Mark Snyder providing the play-by-play. Former Boise State basketball player Abe Jackson handles color commentary. The games can also be heard on the Boise State Broncos Radio Network in Twin Falls (KSNQ 98.3 FM), Pocatello (KWIK 1240AM), Idaho Falls (KID 590AM), Sun Valley (KYZK 107.5FM), McCall (KMXM 101.1FM), Spokane/Coeur d’ Alene/North Idaho (KJRB 790AM), Ontario (KSRV 1380AM) and Tri-Cities, Wash. (KALE 960AM). KIDO, which is in its first year as the home of the Broncos, will broadcast every Boise State game.

THOMAS EARNS PRESEASON RECOGNITION: Boise State University junior guard Anthony Thomas was named a preseason second-team All-WAC selection by the league’s coaches.

Thomas was selected to the second team and becomes just the third Bronco player named to the preseason second team, joining the ranks of Matt Nelson (2007-08 season) and Coby Karl (2005-06) as previous second-team picks. As a sophomore, Thomas started in all 34 games and averaged 8.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. He led the Broncos with 49 steals and finished the season ranked fifth in the WAC with an assist/turnover ratio of 1.55.
