BOISE, Idaho - For the fourth straight year, the Boise State men's basketball team offered fans a preview of their upcoming season in the annual Blue vs Orange scrimmage.

Playing at Bronco Gym ahead of Saturday's home football game against Colorado State, the Broncos played in front of a crowd for the first time before the 2016-17 season.

"It's good to have them in front of the fans," Boise State head coach Leon Rice said. "The more times we can do that, for the young guys, I think the first time you do that, there's always a little jitters and anticipation and nervousness. With our young guys we always try to get them out there early. It always helps them."

The team was split into the Blue team of Malek Harwell, Justinian Jessup, Alex Hobbs, David Wacker, Nick Duncan, Chandler Hutchison and Marcus Dickinson; and the Orange team of Zach Haney, James Reid, Paris Austin, Cameron Oluyitan, Robin Jorch, Derrick Alston and Matt Grooms for two six minute periods.

The Blue team struck early to take a 15-6 lead in the first period. Freshman guard Justinian Jessup of the Blue team led both teams with five points in the first period.

The Blue team held onto their lead to win the scrimmage, 28-13. David Wacker led both teams with 11 points.

A final four-minute third period saw the Orange team of Grooms, Haney, Hutchison, Reid, Hobbs, Alston and Wacker defeat the Blue team of Oluyitan, Austin, Duncan, Jorch, Harwell, Jessup and Dickinson, 7-3.

Jessup and Reid traded three-point baskets before Reid stripped Jessup in the final 45 seconds to set up a field goal from Alston. Hobbs added a pair of free throws to seal the win for the Orange team.

The Broncos open the season at home Friday, Oct. 28, in an exhibition game against Lewis-Clark State at Taco Bell Arena.

Boise State was picked to finish fifth in the Mountain West Men's Basketball Preseason Poll.
