Broncos to Host Oregon on Hardwood
July 2, 2015

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State men’s basketball will host Oregon Dec. 12, 2015, at Taco Bell Arena to start a three-game series. The Broncos will visit the Ducks each of the following two seasons. It will be just the second time Boise State hosts Oregon in men’s basketball, the first coming in 1996.

“We’re really excited to get this game,” said head coach Leon Rice. “Year in and year out Oregon has put together great teams under Dana Altman. There has always been a good rivalry between Boise State and Oregon department wide, so we’re happy to bring it to men’s basketball.”

The Broncos and Ducks both reached the NCAA Tournament last season. Oregon lost to eventual national runner-up Wisconsin in the round of 32. It is just the fourth time in program history Boise State will host a nonconference game featuring two teams returning from NCAA Tournament appearances (Dec. 10, 1988 vs Oregon State; Dec. 10, 1994 vs Pepperdine; Dec. 14, 2013 vs Saint Mary’s).

Boise State last met Oregon on the hardwood in the 2011 College Basketball Invitational semifinals, during Rice’s first season. Oregon won the game 79-71, going on to capture the CBI crown. The Ducks own a 5-0 advantage in the all-time series, which dates to 1975. The only previous meeting at Taco Bell Arena was a 61-58 Oregon victory Dec. 19, 1996.

“It’s great to get a long-term series with a program of this caliber,” Rice said. “These are the kind of games we are always striving to get on our schedule.”

During Rice’s tenure at Boise State the Broncos are 62-15 at home, including a 3-0 mark against opponents from the five power conferences. Two of the wins came against Pac-12 member Utah, most recently Dec. 3, 2013.

The last time Boise State hosted a member of the former Pacific-10 Conference was Nov. 13, 2007, against No. 9 Washington State. The Broncos are 4-6 all-time at home against schools from that group of 10, with Oregon State the most frequent visitor at four appearances (2-2).

The Broncos now have two Pac-12 teams on the schedule for 2015-16, with a road game at Arizona slated for Nov. 19. The Broncos could also face Arizona again during the DirecTV Wooden Legacy. Only three times previously has Boise State faced multiple Pac-12 schools in the same season. The 1984-85 schedule featured two such foes, as did the 1996-97 ledger. During the 1997-98 season, the Broncos took on a school-record four Pac-12 opponents.

Early Bird Ticket Special Extended for Football Season Ticket Holders
As a thank you to football season ticket holders, Boise State is extending the early bird special on men’s basketball season tickets. The special was originally available to the general public until June 15, but has been reinstated for football season ticket holders until the first game of the men’s basketball season.

Season tickets are on sale now and still start at $149 for all fans. Football season ticket holders can take advantage of reduced prices in eight sections, including a savings of more than $100 on a Family Four Pack. With the addition of Oregon to the schedule, Taco Bell Arena will play host to at least three games between 2015 NCAA Tournament participants. Conference foes San Diego State and Wyoming also come to town after playing in last year’s big dance. The remainder of Boise State’s nonconference schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.

The 2015-16 season will also see Taco Bell Arena get a new video board and other digital displays. The new boards are on pace to be installed by the start of the season.
