Boise State to Host Loyola in MW/MVC Challenge
June 7, 2017

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State men’s basketball will host Loyola (Ill.) in the 2017 Mountain West/Missouri Valley Challenge, the conferences announced Wednesday. The Broncos and Ramblers will square off Nov. 28, at Taco Bell Arena. Time and broadcast information will be announced at a later date.

The series will consist of 10 games, all taking place in a six-day span during late November and early December. Boise State and Loyola will be one of three games played on the first day of the challenge.

Annual matchups for teams in the challenge are based upon factors including the previous year’s achievements, records and RPI rankings, as well as projected rankings/strength of teams in the upcoming season, based on composite sources. Each season will be considered separately in terms of matchups.

This will mark the second all-time meeting between the programs and the Broncos will be looking even the score after Loyola claimed a 48-45 win in the championship game of the 2014 Las Vegas Classic. During the 130 games that Anthony Drmic and Derrick Marks were both on Boise State’s roster, the 2014 loss to Loyola was the only game the Broncos played without either of them, as each was forced to miss the game with an ankle injury.

This season is the third in the current four-year series. The conferences split last year’s games 5-5. The leagues previously held a four-year series from 2009 to 2012. The MW holds an all-time series led of 3-1-2 in the previous six challenges and is 33-22 overall as a conference in the challenge games.

Boise State is 3-1 all-time in MW/MVC Challenge games, including a 2-0 mark at home. In 2012, Boise State won 83-70 at then-No. 11 Creighton (Nov. 28), the highest-ranked opponent the Broncos have defeated in program history.
