Boise State Comes Up Short in CBI Opening Round at Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. Boise State’s Kurt Cunningham led all scorers with a career-high 25 points, but despite his efforts, the Broncos fell to Stanford, 76-96, in the opening round of the 2009 College Basketball Invitational, Wednesday.

During the first half of play, Cunningham tallied 16 points for Boise State, accounting for over half of the Broncos 31 points at the half.  On the night, the junior made 11-of-16 from the floor and grabbed six rebounds.

Junior Ike Okoye recorded a team-high eight rebounds and added 14 points. Senior Aaron Garner also scored in double-figures with 13 points, while sophomore La'Shard Anderson dished out a career-high seven assists for the Broncos.

Leading the way for the Cardinal was Jeremy Green with 19 points, while Lawrence Hill registered 18 and Landry Field had 16.

Stanford shot 53.5 percent from the floor, while Boise State hit 50.0 percent of its shots. However, the Broncos out-rebounded the Cardinal, 34-33, but committed 22 turnovers which led to 27 of Stanford’s points.
