LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Boise State men’s basketball team fell to top-seeded Utah State 77-69 in the championship game of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament Saturday, at Orleans Arena.

Senior guard La’Shard Anderson led the Broncos with 18 points. Daequon Montreal and Jeff Elorriaga each added 10.

Anderson was named to the five-member WAC All-Tournament Team, the first Bronco to earn the honor since 2008 when Reggie Larry (MVP), Matt Nelson and Matt Bauscher were named to the squad.

The teams remained relatively even for the game’s opening minutes, but the Aggies were able to open a 12-point advantage with nine-plus minutes remaining in the half. Over the next seven minutes, the Broncos came storming back.

Boise State used a 21-6 run to reclaim the lead, but Utah State scored the first stanza’s final five points, entering halftime with a 35-33 lead.

The Aggies extended their lead back to double figures in the second half. But the Broncos were able to make another run. After trailing by as many as 14, Boise State cut the Aggies’ lead to two (56-54) with six minutes left in regulation.

That was as close as the Broncos were able to get, as the Aggies held on for the victory.

Elorriaga added three assists and a game-high four steals, and with his team-leading four assists, Anderson moved into first place on Boise State’s all-time single-season assists list with 153.
