Fourth-Seeded Broncos To Face New Mexico State Thursday in WAC Tournament

BOISE, Idaho For the second consecutive season, the Boise State men’s basketball team earned the four-seed in the WAC Tournament. The Broncos will play Thursday at noon at the Lawlor Events Cetner on the campus of Nevada. The Broncos (19-11, 9-7) face fifth-seeded New Mexico State.

Earlier this season, Boise State swept the season series with the Aggies for the first time since joining the WAC. Here is what happened this season when facing New Mexico State...


Boise State 87, New Mexico State 84

La'Shard Anderson hit all four of his free-throw attempts in the final 14 seconds to lead Boise State to an 87-84 win over New Mexico State ... Anderson scored 15 points, as did fellow Broncos Kurt Cunningham and Ike Okoye. Aaron Garner added 11 points for Boise State ... Jahmar Young scored a game-high 25 points to lead New Mexico State ... Troy Gillenwater contributed 24 points and a game-high 11 rebounds and Jonathan Gibson and Wendell McKines had 17 points and 10 points, respectively ... Boise State improved to 9-1 at home this season and 3-0 in home conference games ... There were seven lead changes and the score was tied seven times. But the Broncos used the free throw shooting of Anderson to hold off the Aggies in the final seconds.

Boise State 104, New Mexico State 92

Boise State took the upper hand on third place in the Western Athletic Conference with a 104-92 victory over New Mexico State ... Boise State swept the Aggies and leapfrogged them into third a week before the WAC Tournament in Reno, Nev ... Jamar Green had a career-high 19 points as one of six Boise players in double figures, but it was Broncos senior forward Mark Sanchez who was too much for the Aggies ... Sanchez and the Broncos? big men helped put Boise State up 80-64 with 8:22 left to play ... Sanchez was limited to five minutes in the first half with foul trouble, but he scored nine of his 13 points during a stretch where the Broncos outscored NMSU 23-14 during a seven-minute stretch early in the second half ... NMSU got to within seven with 1:36 to play, but it was as close as the Aggies would come, losing their second straight ... Boise State outrebounded NMSU 36-34 and 17-13 on the offensive glass, scoring 44 points in the paint and 17 second-chance points ... Jahmar Young had 24 points to lead the Aggies and Jonathan Gibson added 21.
