Okoye, Sanchez and Thomas Earn All-WAC Conference Honors
BOISE, Idaho - Three members of the Boise State men’s basketball team were named to one of the Western Athletic Conference’s all-league teams, Sunday.

Senior Mark Sanchez earned second-team All-WAC honors, while juniors Ike Okoye and Anthony Thomas were named to the WAC All-Defensive Team.

Sanchez (Tucson, Ariz./Pima CC) earned second-team All-WAC honors after averaging 12.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Earlier this season Sanchez was named WAC Player of the week on two occasions, becoming just the third Bronco in Boise State history to earn the honor multiple times in a single season. Sanchez finished the season ranked among the league’s leaders in defensive rebounding (fourth), rebounding (fifth), field goal percentage (10th) and scoring (12th). He is the fourth Bronco player selected as a second-team All-WAC pick, joining Abe Jackson (2002), Coby Karl (2006) and Matt Nelson (2008).

Okoye (Sacramento, Calif./Wyoming) claimed a place on the WAC All-Defensive Team after posting an incredible 58 blocks during his debut season with the Broncos. He finished the second in the WAC in blocks (1.93 bpg), ninth in field goal percentage (.527) and tied for 15th in rebounding (5.6 rpg). Okoye’s 58 blocks rank second in the Boise State single season record books. He is the fifth Bronco named to the WAC All-Defensive Team joining Jason Ellis (2004 and 2005), Eric Lane (2007) and Matt Bauscher (2008).

Thomas (Mansfield, Texas/Mansfield HS) was named to the WAC All-Defensive Team after being known for his tenacity when guarding Boise State’s opponents. The junior led the Broncos in assists, dishing out an amazing 144 assists this season, good enough for second in the Boise State single season record books and sits just one shy of breaking the all-time record. This season, he averaged 9.4 points and 2.6 rebounds for the Broncos. Thomas completed the regular season second in the WAC in assists (4.80 apg), seventh in assist/turnover ratio (1.53) and 10th in steals (1.33 spg). The guard is just the sixth Boise State player to be named to the WAC All-Defensive Team, joining Jason Ellis (2004 and 2005), Eric Lane (2007), Matt Bauscher (2008) and teammate Ike Okoye (2009).

Boise State and Nevada were the only two teams to have two members named on the same conference team. Boise State had two members named to the WAC All-Defensive Team (Okoye and Thomas), while Nevada had two players named first-team All-WAC (Luke Babbitt and Armon Johnson).
