Broncos Prepare for MW Tournament Debut

After completing its first regular season as a member of the Mountain West, the Boise State men’s basketball team will face top-seeded San Diego State (No. 18/21) in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Conoco MW Tournament, Thursday (March 8).

Tip-off between the Broncos (13-16, 3-11 MW) and Aztecs (24-6, 10-4 MW) is scheduled for 1 p.m. (MT), at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The game will be televised nationally by The Mtn.

TV INFORMATION: The quarterfinal games of the MW Tournament will be broadcast live by The Mtn. The channel is carried by the following local providers: DIRECTV (616) and Cable One (329).

THE SERIES: The Broncos are 0-3 in the all-time series with San Diego State. Prior to this season the only previous meeting between the schools was played more than 35 years ago. San Diego State defeated Boise State 79-68 in San Diego, Dec. 16, 1976.

CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT HISTORY: The Broncos are making their first appearance in the MW Tournament. In 10 years in the WAC Boise State went 10-9 in the league tournament, reaching the championship game three times, winning in 2008. In five years in the Big West the Broncos went 3-4 in the conference tournament, reaching the championship game in 1999. In the Big Sky Conference Tournament (1976-96) Boise State went 12-10 and reached the championship game five times, winning in 1976, 1988, 1993 and 1994.
