HONOLULU (AP) -Reggie Larry had 23 points and 10 rebounds to give Boise State a share of its first Western Athletic Conference championship and a 78-71 win over Hawaii Saturday night.
Tyler Tiedeman added 22 points for Boise State (22-7, 12-3 WAC) and Mark Sanchez had 14 for the WAC-leading Broncos.
Riley Luettgerodt led Hawaii (11-16, 7-7) with 20 points and Matt Gibson had 17. Bobby Nash added a double-double for the Rainbow Warriors with 10 points and 10 boards.
Boise State used a 22-4 run to open up its biggest lead of the ball game, 58-40, with 11:28 to go. The Broncos made eight of 11 field goal attempts during the stretch, including 5-of-5 shooting by Tiedeman.
Hawaii responded with a 20-6 run of its own to pull within four, 64-60, with 6:22 remaining. But the Broncos went 10-for-14 from the line down the stretch to seal the victory.
Boise State made 11 of its first 14 field goal attempts of the game to open up a 28-14 lead at the 9:58 mark in the first half. But the Broncos missed their next seven shots from the floor and Hawaii responded with a 12-1 run to close to within three, 29-26, with 4:34 to go in the first.
Boise State led 36-30 at halftime.
