Bronco Men to Play Final WAC Road Games
The Boise State men’s basketball team will play its final two regular-season conference road games this week, traveling to face Fresno State (Feb. 24) and Nevada (Feb. 26).
The Broncos (15-11, 7-6 WAC) and Bulldogs (13-14, 5-8 WAC) are slated to tip-off at 9 p.m. (MT), at the Save Mart Center.
Boise State and Nevada (11-15, 7-5 WAC) are scheduled for an 8:35 p.m. (MT) tip, and the game will be televised live by the WAC Sports Network.
The Broncos and Bulldogs have each won 14 games in a 28-game series that dates back to the 1975-76 season. The Broncos have won six of the last eight meetings, though the team is 4-9 when playing at Fresno State. The Broncos have won just once in their last six trips to Fresno, Calif.
The Broncos have won three-straight, a streak that started with a 75-61 victory over Fresno State at Taco Bell Arena, Feb. 10.
The Bulldogs have won five of their last seven, with four of the five wins during the stretch coming at home. Fresno State is 10-4 at the Save Mart Center during 2010-11.
Senior guard La’Shard Anderson entered this week ranked 15th in the country in steals, averaging 2.5 per game.
NOONAN ECLIPSES 1,000
With his team-high 20 points against UC Santa Barbara, redshirt senior forward Paul Noonan became the 20th men’s basketball player in school history to score 1,000 career points. Noonan, who currently has 1,016 career points, ranks 18th on the Broncos’ career scoring list.
BRONCOS AMONGST NATION’S BEST
Boise State entered this week ranked second in the nation in turnover margin, forcing 5.8 more turnovers per game than committing. The Broncos also ranked 11th in steals, averaging 9.0 per game.
The Broncos have gone to overtime on three different occasions in 2010-11 (2-1), the most since going to extra minutes four times in 2007-08. The Broncos have also played nine games decided by three or fewer points, going 4-5.
CLUTCH WHEN IT COUNTS
The Broncos are 60-of-81 (.741) in clutch free throw attempts in 2010-11 (see page six for a complete definition), better than the team’s overall percentage at the line in 2010-11 (.720).
Bob Behler is in his third season as the “Voice of the Broncos,” and his 25th calling college basketball games. Joining Behler, and also in his third season, is former Bronco Abe Jackson, who played for Boise State from 1998-2002.
All Bronco games will be broadcast on the Bronco Radio Network, with KBOI 670 AM serving as the flagship station. Games can also be heard live at broncosports.com.
