Marks Named Player of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State sophomore guard Derrick Marks was named Mountain West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Feb. 4-10, the league office announced Monday.

The award is Marks’ second this season, and the third weekly award for a Bronco in 2012-13 (Anthony Drmic; Dec. 17). Marks, who was also named Player of the Week Dec. 3, is one of only four players in the league with multiple weekly honors.

The Broncos’ three weekly awards are tied with New Mexico for second-most in the Mountain West. Colorado State has a league-high five.

Marks averaged 16.5 points per game last week, as the Broncos fell at then-No. 25 San Diego State (63-62) and won at home against Wyoming (68-61).

He scored a game-high-tying 16 points – all in the second half – against the Aztecs, in nearly leading the Broncos to an upset. He added a game-high seven assists against SDSU, his highest total in a league game in two seasons in the MW.

The Broncos lost on a 3-pointer in the game’s final seconds, but Marks nearly led the Broncos to victory – coming back from 17 down – in the second half, as 10 of Boise State’s 13 baskets were either scored or assisted the sophomore.

He followed the performance by scoring 17 against the Cowboys, going 7-of-11 from the floor (.636). The win gave Boise State back-to-back victories over Wyoming, the first regular-season sweep of a Mountain West school since joining the league.

The Broncos’ four wins in MW play have already surpassed the team’s total from its debut season in the league (three).

Marks was 13-of-26 from the floor on the week (.500). He was 3-of-4 from the 3-point line, and averaged four assists, three rebounds and one steal.

Boise State will play at New Mexico Saturday (Feb. 16) at 7 p.m. MT. The game will be televised live by ROOT SPORTS.
