SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -Matt Nelson had 12 points and nine rebounds as Boise State barely held off San Jose State 65-64 on Saturday.

Eric Lane scored 11, Coby Karl and Seth Robinson each added 10 for the Broncos (13-10, 7-5), who trailed by as much as 13 points during the first half.

Menelik Barbary of the Spartans (4-20, 3-9) led all scorers with 15 points and Lance Holloway added 12.

The loss gave San Jose State their sixth straight 20 loss season. The last time San Jose finished a season with fewer than 20 losses was in 1999-2000 season when they were 15-15.

The Broncos who grabbed the lead with 28 seconds left in the first when Robinson made a layup to give Boise State a 31-30 lead.

Karl, who's Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl's son, entered the game needing just 14 points to tie Chris Childs for fourth on the all-time Broncos scoring list. However, Karl made just a 3-pointer from the field and finished the game with 1-for-10 from the floor but was 7-for-10 from the free-throw line. He now needs five points to pass Childs.

San Jose State had a last-second chance to win the game but Carlton Spencer missed a 10-foot jumper with three seconds left.

The Broncos are now 14-1 all-time against San Jose State and have won nine straight meetings since 2001.
