MATT NELSON RECEIVES FIRST TEAM ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS

            BOISE, Idaho Matt Nelson, the starting center on the Boise State University men’s basketball team, has been named to the first team of the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. 

            A senior from Issaquah, Wash., Nelson graduated from Boise State in December of 2007 with a 3.52 grade point average in business.  He is currently enrolled in the graduate program at Bois State.  As a first team member from district eight, Nelson will now advance to the national All-America ballot. 

            Nelson is second on the team in scoring with a 15.8 points-per-game average.  Nelson leads the Bronco team in field goal percentage making 138 of 209 attempts for 66.0 percent, which also ranks him fourth nationally.  He also second on team in rebounds averaging 7.7 per-game.

            Since transferring from Eastern Washington University following his sophomore season, Nelson has started every game for Boise State the past two years (53).  Twice this season he was named the Player of the Week in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). 

            Nelson has helped the Broncos to an overall record of 17-5 this season, and a current position of second place in the WAC at 8-3. 

            The Broncos are back in action tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 9) at New Mexico State University in another league contest.
