Marks Claims Third MW Weekly Honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State senior Derrick Marks was named Mountain West Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1, the conference announced Monday. Marks scored 28 points, including 26 in the second half, Tuesday (Jan. 27) to lead the Broncos to a come-from-behind win against Colorado State. This is the third weekly award of the season for Marks and the seventh of his career.

Marks also won the award three times as a sophomore in 2012-13, and is the first Mountain West player to win three weekly honors in two different seasons since Jimmer Fredette did so in 2009-10 and 2010-11, while at BYU.

His 28 points came on 8-for-17 shooting, including 7-of-11 in the second half. Marks was 3-for-4 from three-point range and his third triple came with 1:22 remaining to give Boise State a 75-73 advantage, the Broncos' first lead since the 7:03 mark of the first half. The Rams had led by as many as 12 in the second half.

Marks either scored or assisted on 25 of Boise State's final 27 points and scored 21 of the final 25. The Broncos trailed 62-55 when the run started with 7:13 to play. He was 9-for-10 from the free throw line, with all of his attempts coming in the final six minutes.

Along with a game-high 28 points, Marks had three rebounds, three assists and three steals in 35 minutes of action. He did not come off the floor in the second half. Two of his three steals came in the final 90 seconds of the game .

The victory pushed Boise State's win streak to five games and ended Colorado State's at four. The Rams had just cracked the coaches' poll top 25 and entered the game against the Broncos ranked No. 24.
