Jan. 2, 2017

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State junior Chandler Hutchison was named Mountain West Player of the Week Monday, after lifting the Broncos to a 2-0 start in conference play. Hutchison averaged 20.5 points and 8.5 rebounds last week, including a game-winning three-pointer as time expired Saturday, to beat Colorado State.

Hutchison recorded a double-double against the Rams with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while adding four assists, a block and a steal. He won the game on a three-pointer at the buzzer to cap a 14-point second half, including 10 of Boise State's final 11. Hutchison stole a pass and finished on the other end to tie the game at 71. After CSU regained the lead with 4.1 seconds left, he took the inbound pass and raced into the frontcourt, pulled up on the right wing and banked in the game-winning shot with no time remaining.

The Mission Viejo, Calif., native led the Broncos to an 83-80 road win Wednesday, against Utah State. He scored 21 points to go with six rebounds. Hutchison scored 14 points in the final 9:24 of the first half, sparking a run that saw Boise State turn a two-point deficit into a six-point halftime lead. His dunk with 1:05 to play in the game gave Boise State an eight-point advantage.

It is the first weekly award of Hutchison's career and the first for a Bronco this season. Hutchison becomes the fifth different Bronco to win the award since Boise State joined the Mountain West. Those five student-athletes have combined for 15 Player of the Week honors.

Hutchison is averaging 18 points and 8.5 rebounds per game this season. He has led the Broncos in scoring 11 times after doing so just once in his first two seasons. Hutchison has five games this season with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. He is the only player in the Mountain West with more than two such games this season and is the third Bronco in the past 30 years with five 20-and-10 games in a season.
