FRESNO, Calif. (AP) -Paul George scored 21 points, capped by two three-point plays in the final minute, to lead Fresno State past Boise State 71-68 on Saturday night in both teams' Western Athletic Conference opener. Mike Ladd added 18 points for Fresno State (8-7, 1-0), and Sylvester Seay had 14. The Bulldogs trailed for most of the game until George got a layup to roll in while drawing a foul on Boise State's Robert Arnold with 48.5 seconds remaining. The resulting free throw gave Fresno State a 68-66 lead. After La'Shard Anderson's baseline jumper tied the game with 22.6 seconds to go, George again drove for a layup with 15.8 seconds left while drawing another foul on Arnold. Anderson's off-balance three-pointer hit the rim and bounced away as time expired. Daequon Montreal led Boise State (9-5, 0-1) with 24 points off the bench. www.broncosports.com |
