BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Daequon Montreal had 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead Boise State to a 81-78 comeback victory over New Mexico State on Friday night at Taco Bell Arena.
Paul Noonan hit two tie-breaking free throws with 1:02 to play to put the Broncos (9-5, 2-0 WAC) ahead, and Montreal followed with a basket and free throw as Boise State improved to 2-0 in WAC play for just the fourth time since joining the conference.
Troy Gillenwater scored 24 points for the Aggies (7-9, 1-1).
Boise State trailed the entire game until Robert Arnold's 3-pointer gave them a 68-67 lead with 4:09 remaining.
La'Shard Anderson scored 17 points for the Broncos while Arnold and Noonan added 13 apiece.
Gordo Castillo added 14 points for the New Mexico State, which led by as many as 10 points in the first half.
New Mexico State shot 69.6 percent from the field in the first half en route to a 45-39 halftime lead, but Boise State held the Aggies to just 37.5 percent shooting in the second period, outscoring the visitors 42-33 in the stanza.
Boise State hits the road next week, traveling to face San Jose State (Jan. 6) and Hawai'i (Jan. 8).
