Broncos Fall to Utes

SALT LAKE CITY – The Boise State men’s basketball team suffered its second loss of the 2012-13 season, falling to Utah 76-55 Wednesday at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.

Derrick Marks scored 18 points to lead Boise State (6-2), which was playing its third-straight road game.

Utah (6-2) led wire-to-wire, outscoring the Broncos 27-8 over the game’s first 10 minutes.

The Utes extended their advantage to as many as 21 points in the first half thanks in large part to going 15-of-20 (.750) from the field. At the other end of the floor, Boise State – which had combined for 34 3-pointers its last three games – went just 1-for-4 (.250) from 3-point range.

Boise State closed the gap before halftime following a 7-2 run over the final two minutes of the period, entering intermission down 41-25.

But the Utes puhshed their lead out to 26 (61-35), and cruised the rest of the way.

Utah finished the game shooting 67.5 percent from the field, including a 9-of-16 clip from 3-point range (.563).

The Broncos return to Taco Bell Arena to host LSU next Friday (Dec. 14), the first home game in nearly three weeks. The Broncos and Tigers will tip at 7 p.m.
