MISSOULA, Mont. - Montana erased an 11-point Boise State lead in the second half to claim a 74-72 win Friday, in the season opener for both teams. Anthony Drmic scored a game-high 23 points.

Boise State led 58-47 with 10:45 to play after Drmic nailed three-pointers on three-consecutive possessions. He was 5-for-11 from behind the arc in the game.

Montana cut the lead to 65-63 with 4:20 left. James Webb III returned to the game with four fouls and delivered a dunk on the next possession. On the ensuing defensive trip, Webb was whistled for his fifth foul and had to watch the final 3:37.

With 2:01 left, Montana hit a three-pointer to take its first lead of the second half at 70-69. The Broncos went back in front 71-70 on a pair of Mikey Thompson free throws, but the Grizzlies scored the next four points.

With the score 74-71 and less than 10 seconds to play, Nick Duncan had a three-point attempt rattle around the rim and pop out.

Thompson scored 15 points off the bench on 6-of-8 shooting.

Webb played just 17 minutes as he battled foul trouble all game. He finished with six points and two rebounds. The Broncos were called for 29 fouls in the game and Montana held a 36-12 advantage in free throw attempts.

Drmic now has 31 career 20-point games. He has scored at least 20 points in each of the last three season openers. His five triples bring his career total to 219, passing former teammate Jeff Elorriaga (218; 2011-14) for third all-time at Boise State.

The loss snaps an eight-game winning streak for the Broncos in season openers. The last loss was also the last true road game to open a season, a 94-79 setback at Wyoming to start the 2006-07 season.

Boise State opens its home schedule Monday, against Northern Arizona. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (MT) at Taco Bell Arena. It will be televised by ROOT Sports.
