Drmic Scores 22, Broncos Fall at UNLV
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Anthony Marshall and Bryce Dejean-Jones scored 16 points each, helping UNLV rally from a 10-point second-half deficit and hang on to beat Boise State 68-64 on Tuesday night.
Katin Reinhardt and Anthony Bennett added 11 apiece for the Rebels (23-7, 10-5 Mountain West), who won their fifth-straight and can clinch the second seed in next week's conference tournament with a win over Fresno State Saturday.
Anthony Drmic led Boise State (20-9, 8-7) with a game-high 22 points and added eight rebounds and five assists, both team highs. Drmic was 8-of-12 from the field and 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Jeff Elorriaga had 19 points and was 5-of-10 from behind the arc.
UNLV started the game 1 of 13 from 3-point land but later heated up. Reinhardt hit a big one that bounced high off the rim and in with 16 seconds left to give UNLV a 66-61 lead and clinch the win.
…Boise State led the entire first half, and for the first 2-minutes, 58-seconds of the second period…UNLV, which trailed Boise State the entire previous meeting this season, grabbed its first lead at 17:02 in the second half…there were five lead changes in the game, the last one coming with 3:20 left in regulation.
…Boise State’s first four-game league winning streak in the Mountain West came to an end.
…Anthony Drmic scored a game-high 22 points, his league-leading 13th game with at least 20 points this season (pending Bennett)…his 24 double-figure scoring games are tied for the second-most in the MW…eight of the 20-point outings have come during conference play, also a league high…he scored each of the Broncos’ first 10 second-half points and 12 of the first 15.
…Jeff Elorriaga went 5-for-10 from 3-point range en route to 19 points…he has seven games this season with at least five 3-pointers, and ranked fifth-nationally in 3-point field goal percentage (.455)entering tonight…he was also 16th-nationally in 3-point field goals per game (3.00), one of just 21 players in the country averaging three-or-more…he leads the MW in both categories.
…Elorriaga now has 80 3-point field goals in 2012-13, tied for the fourth-most in a single season in school history (Coby Karl; 2006-07), and 12 short of Abe Jackson’s school record set in 2001-02 (92).
…Boise State won the rebounding battle 33-32, in the battle of only two teams to outrebound Colorado State this season…every Bronco to see the floor in the first half grabbed at least one rebound, and every Bronco to play against the Runnin’ Rebels grabbed multiple rebounds during the game.
…Boise State opened the game on a 7-0 run, and led by as many as 11 points…the Broncos led 32-25 at intermission, just the second time this season the team has lost when holding a halftime lead…the other game was at Nevada, Jan. 26 (28-27).
…Boise State went 13-of-25 (.520) from 3-point range…the 13 3-pointers are the second-most in a game this season (Seattle; Dec. 2)…the Broncos have no shot 50 percent or better from long range six times this season, the most since also accomplishing the feat six times in 2007-08.
…The Broncos had 16 assists on 22 made baskets, and seven of the eight players to see the floor recorded at least one…the assist total is the second most recorded in a MW game this season (22; Air Force, Feb. 20).
