Broncos Post Sweep of Fresno State
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Anthony Drmic scored a game-high 28 points and Jeff Elorriaga added 20 on Saturday night as Boise State defeated Fresno State 72-63 at the Save Mart Center.
Drmic helped Boise State (18-8, 6-6 Mountain West) by sinking 12-of-15 free throws, and scoring 25 of his points in the second half. Elorriaga was 6-for-10 from 3-point range.
Boise State came back from a halftime deficit (26-25) for just the third time this season, and the first in a league game since defeating TCU 65-64, Feb. 18, 2012.
Derrick Marks added seven assists and turned the ball over just once.
Fresno State (9-17, 3-10) led briefly in the first half, but could not get much consistent play after that.
Allen Huddleston scored 21 points to lead the Bulldogs. Tyler Johnson scored 15 points, and Kevin Olekaibe and Marvelle Harris each had 10.
Boise State had a 33-26 rebounding advantage, but committed 13 turnovers.
The Broncos host Nevada Wednesday (Feb. 27) at 6 p.m., at Taco Bell Arena.
Boise State announced earlier in the day it will host the first Black Out at Taco Bell Arena in school history against Colorado State, March 2 (Saturday; 6 p.m.). The Broncos will unveil their all-black uniforms, and encourage all fans to wear black as well.
…The Broncos doubled their win total in league play from their debut season in the MW in 2011-12 (three), and the two road wins this season in league play are more than the team notched on the road all last season (one).
…The Broncos posted their second sweep of the season (Wyoming)…is the third sweep of the Bulldogs in conference play all-time, and the second-straight dating back to the 2010-11 season in the Western Athletic Conference.
…Anthony Drmic (28) and Jeff Elorriaga (20) each scored 20-plus points, the first time since Jan. 23 – also against Fresno State – that the Broncos had multiple players with 20-or-more points (Marks, 30; Drmic, 23).
…Drmic, who scored 25 of his points in the second half, notched his 11th 20-point game of the season – the most since Reggie Larry had 18 in 2007-08…was his 21st double-figure outing in 26 games this season…Drmic also had 21 in the second half against Air Force earlier this week en route to 23 points.
…Elorriaga notched his third 20-point game of the season (also the third of his career), and his first in a league game…last 20-point game came against UT Arlington, Jan. 2 (22)…went 6-for-10 from 3-point range (.600), his highest total since also hitting six against Wyoming in the Broncos’ conference opener (Jan. 9)…has 11 3-pointers in the last two games.
…After posting nine assists and just one turnover against Air Force, Derrick Marks recorded seven assists to just one turnover against the Bulldogs…has 16 assists and just two turnovers in the Broncos’ two victories this week.
