Broncos Post Wire-to-Wire Victory Over UNLV

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Anthony Drmic scored 22 points to lead Boise State to a 77-72 victory over UNLV Saturday night, at Taco Bell Arena.

Derrick Marks added 17 points as the Broncos (15-6, 3-4 Mountain West) led wire-to-wire. With the lead down to four with under five minutes to play Marks hit a pull-up jumper and a contested three-pointer on back-to-back possessions to give Boise State some breathing room.

After Marks' triple, the Rebels scored the next eight points, pulling within one on a 3-pointer by Anthony Marshall with 33 seconds left. Marks and Drmic each hit two free throws in the final seven seconds.

Anthony Bennett scored 25 points and Marshall added 18 points and matched a career-high with 12 assists for UNLV (17-5, 4-3).

Boise State led 42-35 at halftime and saw its biggest lead at 55-43 on Drmic's 3-pointer with 13:18 remaining.

Ryan Watkins helped the Broncos jump out to an early lead. Boise State led 11-2 less than four minutes into the game with eight points from Watkins, including his first-career three-pointer. He finished with 12 on 5-of-6 shooting.

Jeff Elorriaga scored 11 points with a trio of three-pointers. Elorriaga played all 40 minutes after missing the last two games. Mikey Thompson also contributed nine points and a career-high nine rebounds.

The victory is the 50th during the Leon Rice era. Rice notched his 50th victory in just his 86th game leading the program, the fastest head coach to reach the milestone since the Broncos joined Division I before the 1970-71 season. Rod Jensen earned his 50th win in his 89th game Nov. 27, 1998 (Idaho State).
