Boise State Falls to UNLV 87-77

LAS VEGAS (AP) UNLV scored 55 points in the second half to rally and beat Boise State 87-77 Wednesday, in Las Vegas. The Broncos (15-6, 6-2 MW) committed 11 of their season-high 18 turnovers in the decisive second half. The Rebels (13-8, 4-4 MW) shot 57.1 percent from the floor in the second half (20-for-35).

Boise State led 53-50 midway through the second half before UNLV went on a 9-0 run in 51 seconds to erase a three-point deficit and take a six-point lead with 9:19 to play.

Patrick McCaw made five 3-pointers, scored 25 points and had five steals to lead UNLV. McCaw's steal and fast-break dunk capped the 9-0 run that put UNLV on top for good.

James Webb III had a put-back dunk to pull Boise State within 66-65 at the 4:55 mark, but UNLV scored the next seven points.

Boise State's full-court press forced a turnover and Nick Duncan pulled up for a 3-pointer at the top of the key to make the score 77-72. McCaw answered with a 3-pointer from the wing and UNLV cruised.

Stephen Zimmerman Jr. added 18 points and Derrick Jones Jr. had 17 for UNLV.

Mikey Thompson led Boise State with 19 points, on a night UNLV honored his late father Freddie Thompson who passed away in April. Webb had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Duncan added 11 points. Thompson became the 26th Bronco to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for his career. Webb now has a double-double in each of his three career games against UNLV.
