Bronco Head Baseball Coach Van Tol to Host First Baseball Camps on Campus in 20 Years

BOISE, Idaho -- Boise State baseball head coach Gary Van Tol will host the first Bronco baseball camps on campus in 20 years, it was announced today.

Van Tol will host a hitting and defense camp Jan. 12-14 at the Caven-Williams Indoor Complex on the Boise State campus. The session on Friday, Jan. 12 will go from 4:30-9 p.m. while the Saturday, Jan. 13 session will run from 8:00 a.m.- 8:45 p.m. The camp will finish up on Sunday, Jan. 14 from 8:00 a.m. -- 4:00 p.m.

The following weekend, Jan. 19-21 Van Tol will host a pitching and catching camp, also at Caven-Williams. The session on Friday, Jan. 19 will run from 4:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m., with Saturday's camp times running from 9:00 a.m.- 8:30 p.m. The pitching and catching camp will finish up on Sunday, Jan. 21 from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

In addition to Van Tol, the camps boast many high-profile staff members familiar to the baseball community and the Treasure Valley.

At the hitting and defense camp (Jan. 12-14), Van Tol will have on staff Joe Matarano of the Chicago Cubs organization and formerly of Boise State football, former big leaguer Bobby Mitchell, currently a coach in the New York Yankees organization, Dave Keller, the Latin American Field Coordinator for the Chicago Cubs, Chris Valaika, former big leaguer and current Chicago Cubs minor league coach and Jesse Hodges, a current minor leaguer in the Chicago Cubs organization, among other local college coaches and scouts.

For the pitching and catching camp (Jan. 19-21), Van Tol will once again be joined by a deep group of talented coaches and scouts, many with big league ties, including former major league pitcher Garrett Stephenson, Derek Johnson, current pitching coach for the Milwaukee Brewers, Mike Mason, the assistant pitching coordinator for the Chicago Cubs, Lance Rymel, a manager in the Chicago Cubs organization and Will Remillard, current minor league catcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.
