Men's Cross Country Places Third, Women 14th at Santa Clara Bronco Invitational

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - Boise State's cross country team took to the course Saturday at the 2009 Santa Clara Bronco Invitational at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale, Calif. The Bronco men worked their way to a solid third place finish while the women's team produced a 14th place team finish.

The men earned a third place finish out of 15 teams with 126 points, falling only to Long Beach State (69 points) and Fresno State (72 points). Junior Sawyer Bosch piloted the Boise State team with his fifth place finish in the Invitational Men's race. He covered the 8-kilometer course in 24 minutes, 43 seconds, only 11 seconds behind the race winner, Robbie Reid of Santa Clara University. Boise State's next finisher, freshman Jeff Howard, clocked a time of 24 minutes, 49 seconds for a 10th place finish.

Bronco Scott Foley crossed the finish in 25 minutes, 31 seconds, good for a 43rd place finish while Zach Wiles was near with a 49th place finish and a time of 25 minutes, 36 seconds. Boise State's final scoring runner was Brian Pierre who placed 53rd in 25 minutes, 39 seconds.

Also running for the Broncos was Cameron Lockard who took 65th (25:50.00) out of the 160 individual racers.

On the women's side, the women placed 14th out of 17 teams with 324 points. New Mexico State led the women's race with 49 team points while Lauren Weaver (unattached) captured the individual title in a time of 16 minutes, 46 seconds.

Shannon Porter led the Broncos in the Invitational Women's race, clocking a time of 18 minutes on the 5-kilometer course to place 28th out of 156 runners. Carly Gerard was Boise State's next finisher across the tape, clocking a time of 18 minutes, 42 seconds to place 65th. Placing 70th, Piper Delaney covered the course in 18 minutes, 45 seconds while Alex Bell placed 101st with a  time of 19 minutes, 8 seconds. Katharine Gallagher rounded out the Broncos' scorers with a 119th place finish and a time of 19 minutes, 26 seconds.

Shea Hanson finished just outside of the scorers for Boise State, running a 19 minute, 26 second race and placing 120th while Bree Whitlock was close behind in 122nd place with a time of 19 minutes, 29 seconds. Melody Braden also ran in the meet, placing 144th in 20 minutes, 27 seconds.

The Broncos have one regular season meet remaining on their schedule, the College of Idaho Coyote Twilight Invitational on Thursday, Oct. 22 in Caldwell, Idaho. The meet is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
