Broncos Finish Last Race Before WAC Championships

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Boise State cross country team set out to compete one last time before the WAC championships on Saturday with multiple Broncos finishing in the top-25 on Saturday at the Bronco Invitational. The Bronco men led the way, finishing in third as a team with two top-5 finishers. The women placed seventh overall out of the 17 teams in competition.


For the men, sophomore Sawyer Bosch ran his way to yet another top-5 finish, placing second overall with a time of 24:39 - only two seconds behind the top finisher in the 8k event. Sophomore Brian Pierre wasn't far behind his teammate as he finished with a time of 24:51 for a sixth place finish. Scott Foley was the next Bronco to cross the finish line at 25:35, coming in at 36th. He was followed not too much later by Kevin Higgs with a time of 25:52 and Cameron Lockhard with a time of 25:55 in 46th and 53rd place, respectively. As a team, the Broncos were the top finisher of the four WAC teams in the meet.


The women also had two top-25 finishers on their way to a seventh place overall finish. The Broncos were led by senior Breanna Sande with a time of 17:57 in the 5k event, placing 19th in the field. Close behind was Kayleen McDowell, who finished 23rd with a time of 18:02. A few seconds later, Karleigh Gempler crossed the finish line for the Broncos on 30th with a time of 18:11. Kendra Hernandez and Karly Gerard finished neck-and-neck at 18:32 finishing in 46th and 48th to round out the scorers for the Boise State.


Next up for the Broncos is the WAC Championships on Sat., Nov. 1, which will be run in Las Cruces, N.M.
